It’s wedding dress shopping time! As proposals are happening all over the world, soon-to-be brides’ wedding day visions are starting to sprout. That begins with the monumental decision of choosing a wedding dress, a dress that every future bride has dreamed about since she was a little girl. So the question is, what will your wedding dress look like? Here are the big trends we’ll be seeing this upcoming spring and summer.
The color of the dress would appear to be set in stone if tradition has any bearing, but think again. This upcoming wedding season, besides the classic white and ivory, brides will be strutting pale blush and pink, as well as pastel blue gowns. As for accessories, the black punk choker is getting an upgrade to a jeweled choker that would pair beautifully with a wedding dress.
There are many types of brides and an equal variety of dress styles to meet their individual tastes. A girl who prefers simplistic designs will likely not choose an extravagant dress adorned with jewels and beads and everything in between. So these dress trends will be categorized according to the type of bride. Decide where you think you fit best!
The “Cinderella” bride will always choose a ball gown. The designers showcased examples that featured sheer cutouts and deep necklines on the torso, with straps that just are just slightly off the shoulders. Accenting this element, illusion embellishment is omnipresent in many designers’ collections, as well as 3D floral applications. An example of illusion embellishment appears in the bride’s sleeves in the photo below, where it looks as if there isn’t any sleeve holding the lace on her arm. Designers that carry this type of dress in their lines include Hayley Paige, Alessandra Rinaudo, Lazaro, and Monique Lhuillier among others.
Modern and elegant dresses are showing their face in the form of sheath silhouettes made of silk with touches of lace. Designers such as Christian Siriano and Oscar de la Renta have a modern and elegant style that is shown in many of their dresses. The details and embellishments are kept to a minimum and are shown on necklines through beading or lace.
The dramatic and glamorous dresses have earned the moniker of “Hollywood” gowns. The “Hollywood” bride loves mermaid and trumpet styles, and this upcoming season they have tulle and silk tails and lingerie styles on the upper torso. The lingerie characteristic is done with sheer fabrics and illusion necklines, as well as exposed shoulders and back. The gowns are adorned with lavish and elaborate beading and embroidery. Designers that exhibited these dresses are Christian Siriano, Isabelle Armstrong, Hayley Paige, and Naeem Khan.
Bohemian styles are trending right now in the fashion industry extending into the wedding industry as well. Layers of lace lightly cascade down to silhouettes of the fragile and dainty gowns we’ve seen in bohemian designs. Ruffles, ribbons, and pearls accent the dresses and fringing has also made an appearance. As seen in one of the pictures below, florals are thread in layers on simple silhouettes to give the dress dimension. The bohemian dresses exude a feminine ambience that many brides will fall in love with. Monique Lhuillier, Jenny Packham, Lazaro, and Alvina Valenta desgins all emanate this style and feeling.
